Dr. Oussouby Sacko (President, Kyoto Seika University)
Born in the Republic of Mali. Studied at Beijing Language and Culture University (China), and Nanjing’s Southeast University before coming to Japan. Received a PhD in architectural planning at the graduate school of Engineering, Kyoto University. Taught at Kyoto Seika University’s Faculty of Humanities and became Dean of the Faculty before taking up his current position in April, 2018. Multilingual, speaking Bambara, English, French, Chinese, and Japanese including the local Kansai dialect. Area of expertise; spatial anthropology. Studies the relationships between society and architecture from various angles, including the restoration of Kyoto townhouses(machiya) and the revival of community. Advocates for a society that accepts diverse value systems with a down-to-earth view of the way we live.
Naotake Maeda (Director of Operation and Exhibition Design, Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art)
Registered first-class architect (Japan)/curator. Director of Operation and Exhibition Design at Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art. After graduating in architecture from the department of Science and Engineering at Waseda University in 1992, he went on to complete the master’s course in 1994. Moved to Mori Art Museum in 2003, and has been involved in the design and planning of over 50 exhibitions, including architectural exhibitions such as Japan in Architecture (2018), and Metabolism: The City of the Future (2011). In addition, has been involved in the design of other art galleries and museums both internationally and within Japan, including Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art (opened 2020), and the Tomioka Silk Mill (opened 2020). Has been in his current post since 2019. Won the Architectural Institute of Japan’s culture award in 2019 for his architectural exhibitions at Mori Art Museum.
