Gallery Yamaki Fine Art
(Kobe)
Introducing the works of two Kyoto-based artists, Susumu KOSHIMIZU (1944-) and Kenji INUMAKI (1943-), under the unifying theme of ‘color and substance’.Both artists have been highly acclaimed as pioneers of Mono-ha and the broader Japanese avant-garde art movement to this day. It can be said that both artists were ahead of the Mono-ha writers of the Kanto region due to their roots in Kyoto – an area where tradition and innovation are simultaneously nurtured. In this exhibition, by contrasting the works of the two artists, we will shed light on a new aspect of Mono-ha that may have been unnoticed in the past, and introduce the rich development of avant-garde art that took place in Kyoto.
