Gallery Collaborations

This booth will consist of two artists, Yu Nishimura from KAYOKOYUKI (Tokyo) and Eli Bornowsky from King’s Leap (New York). This exhibition is a preview of two-person show to be held at King’s Leap in June 2021.
Nishimura uses a variety of images from daily life, such as ordinary landscapes, close-up people, birds, cats, and fruits, and constructs a single painting by intricately layering fragments carved deep in artist’s memory on canvas.
Bornowsky, an artist based in Vancouver and New York works with contemporary mathematical sequences, stochastic processes, and computer software. The works in this exhibition are of lattice-like sequences of numbers, created with the classical technique of tempera.
Nishimura will be showing new works in tempera, which he has been working on himself, in accordance with Bornowsky’s technique.
Nishimura’s expressionistic, multi-layered figures and landscapes in transparent colors, and Bornowsky’s geometric, algorithmic minimalism. Their works, on first glance, are at odds with one another. However, upon closer inspection, both works possess a technical mediation on time, experience and space, as well as a meditative element that connects the painting to the viewer, slowly inviting us to interpret and imagine various things.
