Cohju Contemporary Art

(Kyoto)

We present new works by three young artists who have received MFA at Kyoto University of the Arts and currently work in Kyoto.
Shinya Azuma (1994-) portrays various aspects of humans with a unique humor that can be taken as satire or self-deprecation, based on the sketches inspired by the scenes in daily life.
Tomohiro Takahashi (1996-) focuses on painting stuffed animals as a symbol of relief and sympathy. The eye-catching motifs and the collage-like realistic details is his signature style.
Mio Yamato (1990-) has continued creating “Repetition” series, which are made by the repetition of her simple body actions such as an accumulation of dots or lines all by hand. The image that appears through the organic processes visualizes systems of nature as the tree gradually builds growth rings.
